Ok. Venues booked. Plot's written. Now to assemble the NPC's and players

So....

Dark Times. We've not done one for a couple of years now, so heres a reminder....

Set in England in 1359, the Baron de Launcey is known throughout England as a man who understand the ways of the Dark Lord. Indeed he knows how to fight his powers and ensure that this green land is restored to more Godly ways. His method? A militia, a small party of men and women, good and true, who are able to investigate and thwart the efforts of Satan.

Knights, Cardinals and Nobles have no place here, too tempted by power, pride and greed are they. But rather it is the common man who is the saviour here. The cartwright, the ratcatcher, the wisewoman. People who are so unadulterated by politics and lust that they can remain pure of heart to the end. It is they who are called forth

Dark Times is a "historically based" LRP set in middle ages England. The players take on the role of simple peasants (for who is the bigger hero, the knight that slays the demon, or the thatcher who slays the demon?) who have been called upon by the Baron de Launcey to investigate strange goings on in the land. Whilst the conflicts with the French and the Welsh occupy the thoughts of most of the common folk, these few men and women are charged with investigating and defeating a far more insidious threat. That of the work of the devil and his agents

The best simple way I can describe it is "pretty much" freeform, medieval, Call of Cthulhu

The events are all indoor (YHA hostel. prop beds, showers etc) and fully catered (5 hearty meals, plus some booze) over the weekend. The game does have a simple rules system but the focus is very much on the roleplaying, and story-telling.

Previous events have seen

* A devil worshipping elder seeking power by using a local woman to bear his illegitmate and devil-spawned child, not realising that the curse failed when she bore twins. Instead of the perfect god-child, she bore a demonic monster and a crippled runt. Trying to cover up his crime, the monster was abandoned in the forest, only to mature and become a predator. By feeding him the bodies of locals and lost travellers, he hoped to keep the creature sated. Until he ran out of bodies that is

* A woman who bore a child out of wedlock was re-united with him many years later. Upon discovering this, her jealous husband had him hung for a crime he did not commit. The ghostly father of the child returned to assist in their vengeance, and by possessing her body and feeding the dead childs flesh to his killers (and the unwitting militia), all were cursed by a wasting disease. Could the militia lift the curse before they too were rotting in their graves?

* A knight templar uttered a final curse at the stake, that he would not rest until he had avenged every other member of his order who died. By taking the heads of the clergy he would find his solace. Unfortunately, the militia were in the way of his final few victims

* A isolated house, with equally isolated residents was the location for a number of out of character suicides. A tale of spurned love, bitter revenge and above all a desire to be wanted. It came to pass that the house itself was also resident to a demon of loneliness who would tempt each new inhabitant to turn against their friends and lovers, so that it would be their only friend. Could the militia release the souls of those who had fallen victim to it, save those who were about to succumb and send the demon on its way?

All good fun.

So.....

The next Dark Times is booked for the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of January 2010 at the Clun Mill YHA in Clun (Welsh Borders near to Leominster-ish).
